RSAL Donated a Collection Album from the Library’s Collections to the Military Uniform Museum

On 25 May, the grand opening was held for the museum exhibition project ‘Georgy Zhukov. Time of Power and Forgotten Reforms’ dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the birth of Marshal Zhukov at the Military Uniform Museum of the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO).

The opening ceremony was attended by Vladimir Medinsky, Aide to the President of the Russian Federation, Chairman of RVIO. The exhibition project illustrates the activities of Georgy Zhukov as Defense Minister of the Soviet Union in 1955-1957. The exhibition’s main focus is on the now forgotten reforms of military uniforms. The exposition includes items from the collection of the Central Armed Forces Museum of the Russian Federation, the Victory Museum, the Grekov Studio of Military Artists, the Russian State Art Library (RSAL), and private collections.

In the solemn atmosphere, Kirill Tsyplenkov, a uniform consultant at the Visual Information Centre of RSAL, presented the Military Uniforms Museum with an invaluable gift from RSAL’s collections—a collection album with samples of woolen fabrics approved for supply by the USSR Ministry of Defense in 1947.

‘The chronological period presented at the exhibition associated with Georgy Zhukov’s tenure in his ministerial post, made it possible to show in all its beauty the 1955 military uniform of the Soviet Army, which has not previously been specially exhibited,’ said Kirill Tsyplenkov.
