The Mikhoels Readings Will Be Held at RSAL for the 12th Time

Date: 23.02.2021

The Readings, ‘The National Theatre in a Multicultural Context Conference’, are usually held at the Russian State Art Library (RSAL) at the end of November. In 2021, they are scheduled for 25-26 November (subject to minor date changes).

The Mikhoels Readings is the only conference where, on the one hand, it is dedicated to issues directly related to art history, theatre history, and cultural studies, and on the other hand, is dedicated to the study of resources, collections, and archives. It raises questions about national intercultural interaction, theatre ties, and the history of the development of national theatre and its current state.

Invited are specialists from libraries, museums, archives, and institutes, as well as bibliologists, theatre experts, culturologists, philologists, historians, and publishers.

Presentations may take two forms—20-minute reports and 10-minute commentaries. The exhibition ‘Silent Beauty’ will open on the first day of the conference and is timed to coincide with the 140th anniversary of Anna Pavlova’s birth. Material about the speeches will be included in the collection of scientific articles that is traditionally published following the conference.
