Night of the Arts – 2018 was held at RSAL

On 4 November 2018, the annual All-Russia cultural and educational event, the Night of the Arts, was held at the Russian State Art Library (RSAL). A rich programme provided guests with interesting options for every event.

There were excursions to the library’s book-depository ‘Rare Books from RSAL’s Collections’; exhibitions, such as ‘The Bolshoi Ballet in the Library’, ‘The Wooden Toys of Nizhny Novgorod’, as well as overviews of book exhibitions ‘The Art of Calligraphy’ and ‘The Art of Japan’.

The theme of the exhibition about ballet in the Museum of the Reader continued with the evening of auteur cinema ‘Videodance’, through which the audience became acquainted with the works of the ballerina and director Ksenia Marshanskaya, who presented the film-ballet Feelings and the dance film Dance. Journey.

In the ‘Create a Monogram’ creative laboratory, guests of the Night of the Arts put their fantasies on paper by drawing their own monograms with the help of the exhibited books on fonts and calligraphy at the ‘Art of Calligraphy’ exhibition.

The Russo-Japanese year of cross-cultural was marked at RSAL not only by the exposition displaying publications from the library’s collections devoted to Japanese art, design, and fashion, but also by the film Time of the Samurai: Metamorphoses of the Genre in Japanese Cinema.

In RSAL’s members’ section, both children and adults participated in the quest ‘Through the Mirror and What Can Be Found There’, trying to locate the characters of the famous book by Lewis Carroll and the characters from various fairy tales.

A spectacular defile was held in the Blue Hall and the lobby of the library. Budding designers and fashion design students of the Institute of Design and the Institute of Arts of the Alexey Kosygin Russian State University showed off their new works.

In the Museum of the Reader, the interactive concert programme ‘Fantasy’, performed by student puppeteers of the Yekaterinburg State Theatre Institute, was a great success.

The Night of the Arts ended with the one-man show Accompanist based on the play by the French playwright Marcel Mithois, which was staged and brilliantly performed by the actor, director, and laureate of international vocal and oration contests Denis Sorokotyagin.
